Collection
The Collection
Masterpieces from 700 Years of Art History: The Kunsthalle holds the extensive and diverse collection of the Kunstverein in Bremen. It spans the fourteenth century to the present day with European paintings ranging from the Middle Ages to the present, sculptures from the sixteenth to the twenty-first centuries, and outstanding examples of international media art.
Research
A lot goes on behind the scenes at the Kunsthalle Bremen: The museum carries out exhaustive research, the results of which only become visible when new shows open and catalogues are published.
Conservation Department
Preserving works of art for future generations is one of the cornerstones of museum work, alongside collecting, research and education. The Kunstverein in Bremen employs specialist restorers of paintings and works on paper, as well as a passepartout cutter, who are entrusted with the care and protection of the Kunsthalle Bremen’s collection of over 200,000 works on paper, paintings and sculptures. Their work forms the basis for the preservation of the collection, its digitisation, and for art-historical research as well as material analysis.
