Spectrum / Space. Máté Mészáros with Unusual Symptoms

The Hungarian dancer and choreographer Máté Mészáros investigates the interplay between bodies, open spaces and light. He constantly questions how dance can explore a space.

In his latest project, Mészáros engages with the galleries of the Kunsthalle: The dancers of Unusual Symptoms, the dance company of the Theater Bremen, create a dialog with the architecture, the art works, and the audience in various areas of the museum. Space-filling projections by the art collective Urbanscreen give empty museum rooms a surprising new design. The sculptural qualities of choreography can be experienced in the context of exhibition galleries. The audience members can decide for themselves which perspective they would like to take.

In the performances by Máté Mészáros at der Kunsthalle, the realms of museum and dance fold into each other. The movement of dance is not only given a new context, it also opens an entirely new perspective into the architecture of the museum and the works of art on display.
